The only 'open question'? Unless
one is gifted with prophetic vision of one form or the other, one can only try
to guess the future from what we see occurring in the present. There
are indeed indications about what may be coming down the road,
simply reading, watching and hearing
the daily news. There appear to be trends that even our experts increasingly
describe as inevitable and definitely disturbing.
We, through our governments and our businesses,
and the decisions we have made each day, have already lead to
upset of our climate, emptied our water tables, and polluted our oceans and
the air we breath.
As a running car in a closed
garage will eventually asphyxiate and poison anyone in it, if human
activity were to continue on as is, so would everything on the earth's
surface die. There are even several believable and possible scenarios that present
themselves now, some apparently new to history, that picture how all
life on earth could become extinct. As only one example, there is
now present capability
to literally split the earth apart using only one of fifty submarines
that are navigating the oceans of the earth this very moment.
The circumstances
that are befalling us already are not the work of God or Devine
retribution and punishment, but consequences of the choices
we have all made. The same will be true if the worst were to occur in
the future. The least bit of common and moral sense has informed us
all along that what we were doing could eventually have these dire results.
It is not destiny or fate,
nothing predetermined that is occurring, but the results, the
consequences of our human
choices.
